AMADA’s President & CEO Mitsuo Okamoto awarded France’s Legion Dhonneur

For the active business expansion in France and contribution to Japan-France economic development.

AMADA's President & CEO, Mitsuo Okamoto has been awarded the Legion Dhonneur by the French Republic.

The Legion Dhonneur was founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to be presented to those who have accomplished outstanding achievements for France by the French government at the discretion of the French President. Mr. Mitsuo Okamoto was awarded the "Chevalier" of Legion Dhonneur. The conferment ceremony was held at the French Embassy in Tokyo's Minato ward on January 28th (Wednesday), where the medal was presented by French Ambassador to Japan Mr. Thierry Dana.

AMADA's business expansion in France goes back to the technical cooperation agreement with French sheet metal processing machinery manufacturer Promecam Sisson Lehman, Inc in 1965. AMADA took over the business in 1986 and established a subsidiary company. Since then, AMADA has established a tooling production and sales company, a technical center, and a January 29, 2015 (2/2) European Head Quarters. AMADA started to build an extension to its two primary European manufacturing factories at Charleville-Mézières and Château-du-Loir with an aim of increasing production capacity in last year. The European Head Quarters merged with the manufacturing company in this January. AMADA shall continue to leave its base in France and expand its operations in closer relation to the areas.

The conferment of this award is granted to the significant contribution of AMADA's long-lasting active business expansion in France leading to Japan-France economic development.

 

Business developments in France

1965 - Technical cooperation with French sheet metal processing machinery manufacturer Promecam Sisson Lehman S.A.

1986 - Acquisition and reconstruction of the financially struggling Promecam Sisson Lehman S.A., and establishment of French subsidiary

1988 - Establishment of Amada Outillage S.A. (tooling production and sales)

1991 - Establishment of technical center at Nord2, Paris

1993 - Split the company into manufacturing and sales - Amada Europe S.A. (manufacturing) and Amada S.A. (sales)

2013 - Establishment of Amada Europe Head Quarters S.A.S.

2014 - Start of extension to 2 factories of Amada Europe S.A.

2015 - January, Merger of Amada Europe HQ S.A.S. with Amada Europe S.A.
